Seeds™ Cycled Sponge Filter

$25.00

Seeds™ are sponge filters that have freshwater nitrifying bacteria needed to process ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate; a complete nitrogen cycle. They are cycled without animals and are snail free.

Cycled does not mean you will not see ammonia or nitrite. Effectiveness is dependent on bioload. I recommend feeding lightly and performing water changes while the bio filter catches up to the needs of your tank. Live animal demonstration These are best used in an aquarium that has animals in it. I do not know how they will respond to every fishless cycling method.

If the KH is low and/or the pH drops below 5.8 nitrifying bacteria will become dormant or die. If you need to boost the KH and raise the pH safely aragonite sand or crushed coral in a media bag in the filter is an excellent long-term solution. This can be sent in the same shipment with your filter.

Includes sponge, stand with strainer, cap and airlift tube.

An air pump and airline tubing or internal pump must be purchased separately. Alternatively the sponge can be placed inside of a filter if care is taken not to compress the sponge which will impede water flow, or it can be used to cover an intake on a hang on back filter provided it is the right shape and size. It may need to be tied on to the intake.

Airline Tubing and airline accessories available here

*Ships in the continental U.S. and to Canada

*Daytime high temperatures for the week must be above freezing for the sponges to arrive in good condition.
